I'd
shot this from a bridge that's not too far from the McAbee facilities on Highway
11 west of Tuscaloosa. The bridge in the image is Interstate Highway 59/20.
The barge is carrying products fabricated by McAbee Construction for a company
that manufactures rockets in north Alabama. The sections of rocket are dipped
into these vats to ready the metals from normal temperatures to the coldness
of space that they will endure indefinitely. I'd talked to the captain of the
barge about when he expected to be at the bridge and he'd promised me that he
wouldn't leave our dock until 6 a.m. the following day and it would take him
3-4 hours to reach this point. I came into work at 6 a.m. the following day
and found out that he'd left at 4 a.m.. I raced to the bridge to find him fast
approaching the bridge as I crossed over it. The only shots I managed to make
were of his craft going away from me. Still, I like the image for its' serenity.
