One
of the oldest tricks in the book of photography is to use Vaseline to soften
the focus of a subject. It's also great for adding interesting lens flare to
a welder ;-). I like this shot because it's got an almost surreal quality. The
welder almost looks like a robot and the darkness adds to the overall mood of
the image. The welder is using a technique called MiG (Metal Inert Gas) welding.
Good MiG welders are hard to find, but McAbee has more than their fair share
of these craftsmen.
